Mother's Day at Espwa!

This past Sunday Espwa celebrated Mother's Day. The day started with thirty-two kids receiving first communion after taking classes since October. The church was filled with families watching their children take an important step in their religious life.

Later in the afternoon Espwa put on a performance for the house mothers and birth mothers of the kids who were able to attend. Espwa passed out gifts and cakes to the women to thank them for all the hard work they do.

Thanks to all the mothers who are supporting Espwa!

Mango Season!

All around Les Cayes you can find mangos being harvested--which means summer in Haiti has started!

Espwa has several mango trees on its property, and over the past few days, staff has been hard at work getting them down from trees to share with Espwa's students for a tasty after school snack!

Meet Minouche!

Meet Minouche, the quad's new kitten! She was named by Medgine, one of Espwa's teenage girls in the "Fi Ki Fo" program. Minouche is a very curious little kitten who loves to play in the garden and take naps in the shade.

Update on Nathalie and Daniel

We are extremely happy to announce that after a six year adoption process, Nathalie and Daniel have moved to Canada! Despite the cold weather, Daniel is adjusting very well to life up north. He loves school and was greeted by his classmates with a book full of welcome notes and a soccer ball. The picture below shows them with Nathalie's sister.

Thank you to everyone who has offered moral support these past six years!

So Much Room for Activities!

For those of you that have visited this past year, you know that the finance office moved to the administration building.

Since the move, thanks to the generous support and effort of several groups, the space has been transformed into an all-purpose room, classroom, and computer lab.

It has been used as an arts and crafts space....

English classroom....

computer lab for students and staff......

and teleconference center to connect with people around the world!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! It has been great putting this space to use!

Kay Papa Numa

This weekend Les Cayes held their annual Kay Papa Numa Festival which showcased local artists, restaurants, and music. Within walking distance of Espwa, Espwa's Childcare Office organized for 30 students spend Sunday afternoon enjoying the festivities.

Among the crowd, you could find Espwa's own restaurant, Breuvage Bar-Resto, run by Ti Charles and Lifaite, serving up tasty Haitian cuisine!
It was a great to see the community of Les Cayes, families, schools, and businesses, all come together to enjoy a beautiful weekend.
