Foundations for a new mural!

Espwa was happy to have our friends from Massachusetts come for a visit! While they were here they primed a wall in the boys' village which will later be turned into a beautiful mural!

Their team also included a pediatric nurse who saw Espwa's younger kids to make sure their growth was on track.

In addition to their work in the clinic and the boys' village, they also taught an English class and brought a multitude of crafts for the kids to enjoy!

 Thank you!

Espwa's Soccer Star!

We are excited to announce that one of Espwa's own, Michael Martine, was selected to play on Haiti's junior national team! Michael, who is currently in Espwa's transition program, first came to Espwa in June 2007. He always had a passion for soccer and his skills flourished while at Espwa. He currently plays for a club team in Les Cayes which is where his talent was recognized by the national team. Haiti's national team has the best of the best of the country's soccer players, which represents the country in international tournaments. Earning a spot on the junior team, Michael is one step closer to playing on the international stage. We are so proud of him and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors!

Happy Easter!

We had a wonderful Holy Week, where the Espwa children, staff, and community came together as we honored the death and resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ. The week was filled with joy and reflection, ending with the beautiful baptisms of 31 children.

We wish you all a wonderful and blessed Easter!

Welcome Home!

As most students throughout Haiti are on spring break this week, Espwa welcomed home their "transitioning" students that have spent this past year living on their own.

Meeting in small groups, the students talked among one another and with an Espwa staff member about their experiences so far--what was working well, and how they thought the program could improve. It also was a wonderful opportunity for the students to reconnect with one another as many are in schools across the country.

They were greeted by the Espwa community with love, laughter, and home-cooked meals prepared by some of Espwa's students and staff.

Thank you to all those who have supported our students as they make the difficult transition out of Espwa. To learn more or to make a donation so Espwa can continue to provide the resources to help our students succeed, please visit www.freethekids.org.
