Samuel and Jean-Remy, brothers, sitting in front of the Arts and Crafts Workshop. Sammy is holding his latest creation--the Music of an Angel. The detail work is unbelievable and, to think, it started out as an old 50 gallon metal drum!
You and the artists of Espwa are the toast of the town of Wood-Ridge, New Jersey. Your crafts and those of the Espwa family were sold today at a craft fair. The kids of the school promoted your work at all the masses and your pictures grace the walls of the auditorium even this one which was just posted today. You should all be very proud of yourselves. I certainly am. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your project.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us yesterday at Assumption School. It was a joy to be surrounded by your work, and to have it brought to us by Connie and her sister-in-law Emily. So many times in this contrary world, we can only achieve the worthwhile by enduring people who are, shall we say, among the Lord’s challenges! Not in this case. Connie’s devotion to you and your work, and the effort they both gave, not only to bring us your work, but to exhibit it in the way that it deserves, was a comfort and an inspiration.
My prayer is that none of you ever abandon this wonderful gift that God has given you. I personally believe that art in all its expressions is God’s greatest gift to the human race – it inspires us, it comforts us, it allows us to mimic His gift of creation within our own abilities, to express ourselves, and leads us to an existence on a higher level. I hope we were all able to provide you with some of what you need to keep working in a material sense; our prayers are with you to make sure you keep working in every other!

So many people were just amazed at your talents, the children included. I happened to come across this photo the night before, and printed it out to show people. It’s a cliché, but I tell you seriously, some of the 8th grade boys were literally left speechless. I think you showed them that anything is possible, even some of the dreams they may be fostering. I could almost see the wheels turning in their heads! Sammy, I have to tell you of one woman in particular, who is a professional designer. She was shocked when she saw the beauty and intricacy of the angel, and she said to me, what material did he use, and when I said, he recycled an old metal drum…she couldn’t even take it all in.
