Sight for sore eyes

This is a photo of an electrician hooking up the girls' homes and the kitchen-dining room to EdH, the local power company.  The kids, especially the girls, were crazy happy watching this happen.

Light in the darkness

Wide path (really bad road) that leads to our northern neighborhood where the older boys live.

Some of the 15 homes that are now electrified so the boys and others here enjoy lights at night.  Talk about an upgrade in comfort!

One of the three transformers and switches we were able to buy to make this system work. We express our gratitude to Thomas Cracchiolo and his family foundation for this miracle of light. The residents of the northern neighborhood and the population now have access to electricity for the first time.  I can see the homes from the roof of my house and it's quite a sight to behold now after dark.

Electrifying News

Returned from Castel-Pere late this morning and found these two young fellas here. They are scouts and were exchanging the light bulbs on the left for those on the right. We gave them all our incandescents and they gave us new compact fluorescent ones. They said that Cuba had donated the CF bulbs as they are more energy efficient. This is true but they do not last long here. We've had some and they cannot deal with the surges that are constant with EdH (Electricite d'Haiti). A good idea which we support though it'd be better if the power surges could be controlled.
