Food distribution

We had scheduled food distribution for 200 familes (out of 800) for this morning. As happens in this kind of thing, more folks showed up and kept showing up. Everyone left with something but those who weren't on our list will be visited, their stories verified and added to the list for the next time. This food program is made possible by CRS (Catholic Relief Services) and USAID.

Food Program

Early this morning Amanda and her team loaded up our truck for the one hour trip to Camp-Perrin.
The purpose of the trip was to distribute USAID food to the children of our school in Camp-Perrin.  USAID and Cross International sponsor this IFRP (International Food Relief Program).
A shot of a couple of school children receiving the food packets.

Food shipment

Lots of hands were needed to unload the two truckloads' of packaged food.
Nathalie is manager of this program. Here she's seen checking in all the boxes.

Food Distribution Center

Here's a long shot of the Food Distribution Center with yours truly. The doors ARE forest green as hoped for. All the folks who worked on this building are very proud as they should be. Thanks to USAID and CRS for this opportunity.

USAID visit

We were visited today by the USAID Director of the Food For Peace Program and the USAID Director here in Haiti. They came to see the Food Distribution Depot and the Irrigation Project. Above is Beth Cypser, the Haiti Director, as she addresses the crowd gathered in the arched metal building. She is flanked by yours truly and Dr. Banatte, the CRS host for the trip. The other photo is of Jeff Borns, USAID Director of the Food for Peace Program, receiving a metal version of the USAID shield done by one of our artisans, Jean Remy Nelson. The visit was short and sweet and they were pleased to see the results of our collaboration.

Food Depot

Hard to get a sense of the size of it from this photo but the food depot is a whopping 3,600 square feet. It will be the central food storage area for our food, the food that CRS-USAID provides and the dry food for the Work for Peace Program. It is funded by USAID.

Dry food distribution

One of our security staff, a beneficiary and the local, elected official.
Here was the scene yesterday when we distributed food to 200 families in the area.
USAID through their agent, Catholic Relief Services, will be providing dry food for 800 families living in our area. The folks come to our center and the distribution is made for a month. We provide the infrastructure (personnel and space) which is taxing but well, well worth it! The program will last a year. A huge thanks to the American people for this help.

USAID visit

Paul Tuebner, USAID Director in Port-au-Prince, came by for a surprise visit. He came bearing gifts, too. That's Paul on the left and Bertin Meance of the local Catholic Relief Service. Paul was in the area dedicating a new ambulance-boat for Ile-a-Vache.

USAID

Paul (USAID) with cap and glasses, Jack with glasses, me with neither.
We were visited last Friday by Paul Tuebner, the Director of USAID in Haiti. He is seen here surrounded by a few of the kids in front of our pig pen. Jack Reynolds, President of Theo's Work and my brother-in-law, was here, too. Always glad to host our friends from USAID who are helping us with 600 meals a day for the children and an agricultural project.
