Soccer match, what else?

If the guys aren't playing soccer they're talking about it or watching it on television.  Here's a group watching two European teams playing it out.  The last thing on their minds was haircuts!  See below.

Herold

This is Herold. He left us in 2008 to play professional soccer. Things did not work out and he is now looking to earn a living doing something else. Problem is that jobs are scarce, real scarce. He's 21 y/o and  studied jewelry making but money's needed to get that going. Told him to get a soccer camp up and running so maybe, just maybe...

Saturday activities

Certainly the most popular of activities when school is out of session is soccer. Seems to me that there's always a soccer activity going on. If it's not a match, then the boys are practicing. We've a league set up for Christmas vacation time.

Two of our teams played in the tournament yesterday and both of them won. Yah! The uniforms are rented (500 gourdes per team) but the pride and happiness on their faces are worth much more.

Herold Vieudage

Herold is crazy for soccer and he's very good at it. He's an orphan and has been with us for nine years. He plays for several local teams and was noticed by a coach from Port-au-Prince in a recent match. The coach invited him to go to PaP and play for his team. He'll get room, board and a small salary. We wish him all the best! Who knows--- maybe someday he'll make the big time!

Took this close-up of Feri as he was playing the drums on the sidelines of an intramural soccer game yesterday afternoon. His team was winning!
