Will dropped by to see me this afternoon. Acually, he stopped by so I could see him on my horse. He's making the most of his time here and accumulating experiences along the way. Giddyup, Will.

Soup Kitchen kids

Two of our soup kitchen kids were outside the hall this morning watching the activities. They come and eat with us daily (many times for every meal) and then go home.

Berthony's day

Today is Berthony Piard's birthday. He is now 38 so we put on a special show which included the folklore dance troupe above. The show was followed by a special meal (Guess? Yup, chicken with rice in a bean sauce with all the fixins.) The celebration followed Berthony Junior's baptism.

Berthony Junior is baptized

Berthony and Camille Piard presented their son, Berthony Junior, for baptism this morning. We celebrated in our too small chapel in the Guest House. In the photos above: Yannick, godmother, holds BJ, while I pour water. BJ being held by me. Berthony, Camille, proud parents, Yannick (godmother) and Tanis (godfather). Bercame, Camille and Berthony's oldest child, stands in front.

Loafers

Came across these two loafers this morning on my walk up to the northern village. Can you imagine a more pastoral scene? Felt like joining them but the ground was wet from this early morning's rain.

Ferro-cement roof

Remember the ferro-cement roof trial we did on my back porch? We made some adjustments (learned from our mistakes) and are now doing the roof for the high school's WC in the new and improved way. We save on iron and cement and the roof will last a lot longer than a metal one. It is only one and a quarter inches thick whereas a normal poured cement roof is about six inches.

S.O.S. for Haiti

This is a photo of Susan Midgett, a young mom of two, from North Carolina. It was taken when she was here not too long ago. She heard about us via her husband who is active in the Gate City Rotary Club (Greensboro, N.C.) and eventually decided to come see for herself. Of the many things that struck her, the need for a better, expanded medical and dental clinic seemed most urgent. She has courageously volunteered to fundraise $100,000 to help that dream come true. How will she do this, you may ask. She will be swimming the open waters of the Pacific from San Francisco to the famous island of Alcatraz.
