Rita Hunter, a friend, came up with a terrific link about this Peace Corps person in Central America building a school with old water bottles. The cool thing is that the water bottles are first filled with trash. So we get to reuse our water bottles, get rid of lots of trash and have ourselves a whole mess of building (blocks) bottles. The kids have taken to the idea so we see them all over filling up bottles. There will be prizes for the children who bring in the most bottles.
love this! great to see 'recycle / reuse' in action!
ReplyDeleteUseful piece of work for them...i would like to know if you have "school as usual" at the moment. in thinking about Haiti's "problems"...I am wondering if there are any schools in operation yet in PaP? Do you know if they were able to inhabit any of these and resume a semblance of a normal life while living in the camps?
ReplyDeleteYour kids are so lucky to have the life you and your many supporters have given them!
What a wonderful way of thinking "outside of the box".
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you are providing education for some of the children of Haiti, but I'm angry that people all over the World can't afford basic education for their children. Basic education, K through 12 should be free in all countries. The only reason to restrict education is to preserve domination by the ruling parties. It has been proved that education of citizens leads to the downfall of Dictatorships. Therefore, it is dangerous to the statas quo.
Great to see a plan for the waste we all create. If this idea takes off it will be such a win win.

Love this idea! Hope it works ... many times over. We should all build like this.
