Update on the African-style toilet

Work is progressing nicely on the high school water closet as you can see. We want to try and build a ferro-cement roof for it which is cheaper than a poured roof or a corrugated metal roof so wish us luck.

  1. Hi Father Marc,

I've heard so many great things about you and have been following your blog for awhile now. I appreciate all of your hard work and dedicated heart for the people of Haiti. I've lived about 2hrs north of PAP (in Cazale, near Cabaret) for 10.5 yrs. We have a clinic, malnutrition center, etc. We also help out with the community development group in the village. Their current project is latrines. I saw this post and am interested in the layout, style, list of materials needed, and price. Could you direct us a bit on your experience and ideas? What is a ferro-cement roof? I am interested in your building techniques and appreciate the ingenuity of you and the children in your program. Trying new ways and taking risks to try something different to save money and/or get a better result is to be commended. You are doing some amazing work! Thank You!!
