Food Distribution Center

Here's a long shot of the Food Distribution Center with yours truly. The doors ARE forest green as hoped for. All the folks who worked on this building are very proud as they should be. Thanks to USAID and CRS for this opportunity.

Celebration

All the folks who had a hand in the construction of the food distribution center were invited yesterday to a little feast. Not everyone could make it but the majority who did had a great time. Photos of the group and the food lined up on the counter.

Fresh coat

Wow, what a difference a coat of paint can make! This is the first coat on the food distribution center and I like it. Peter thinks it looks like a huge marshmallow but the next coat with be a beige color with white trim. Graham cracker and marshmallow sandwich?

Food Depot

Our food depot is near completion. Here's a shot of the inside. We used cement stucco to smooth out all the rough spots and fill in the holes. Much easier to maintain cleanliness this way. This construction project is sponsored by CRS-USAID. They chose us for this food storage center because of our track record with them. We have been overseeing a food program for 800 local families apart from feeding our children and running a soup kitchen (cantine is what we call it here). Having a food depot on site makes a lot of sense and will be easier to manage. Imagine 200+ people arriving for their monthly allotment of food and the truck from Les Cayes doesn't arrive! It's happened and we would prefer it not happen again.
