Here's the entrance of our new clinic. On the left is the waiting area. To the right is the ramp for easy access. The structure is basically done so now we are focusing on the furnishings. This is really exciting!
Stay informed, stay involved: here's one way of keeping up with what's happening in southern Haiti. Please consider supporting our mission to save orphans and vulnerable children from desperate poverty; contributions can be sent to our partners at Free the Kids - www.freethekids.org. Thank you for your help.

Clinic
Photo taken from the west. You're looking at the future infirmary section of the clinic.
Remember I told you that a previous photo of the consultation room tile did not do the tile work justice? Well, this makes up for it.

Clinic
Electrical work is being done these days on phase one. Stucco is being applied to the infirmary section (phase two) and I'm really liking the colors. Amazing how paint transforms a building. The above is the waiting area where there will be cement benches but no tattered, old magazines.

Clinic
Inside the clinic courtyard
The door in the above photo is off its hinges because the floors are being tiled. Tiling of the first phase is now done. What do you think of the paint job? All medical facilities in Haiti are painted white with green trim. The trick is to keep the green at a minimum.

Clinic Update
Primer coat of white, water-based paint plus doors (made by our boys) and windows installed on the first phase of our clinic. Looking good, non?

Entrance
Work is continuing on the clinic complex. Some windows and doors are already installed and it is looking very nice. Our doc and the nurses are really anxious to move in.

Masons
Our guys preparing rebar for the beams which will be used for the clinic. Takes a while to do all this by hand but that's pretty much the way it is down here. That's Janelle on the left and Jocelyn (Blan) on the right. Can't tell who the others are with their caps on.

Clinic
Northern side
It's a bit rough but this gives you an idea of the style of the clinic. Our medical team will be very happy to move in to do their work of caring for the medical needs of the children. We are still in the first construction phase and have a ways to go but we are all encouraged by what we have so far.

Clinic Update
The roof of the right wing of the clinic is curing and finish work will begin this coming week. Our medical staff is very excited about the upcoming move. This the first phase of the clinic project. We greatly appreciate your support in realizing this dream. A huge THANK YOU to Susan Midgett and all her hard work. Check out her blog by clicking on the icon entitled SOS for Haiti.

Clinic Update
The walls go up quickly and one really feels like we're moving along. Course there's still the columns, the roof, the plumbing, the electric, the septic system, windows, doors, finish work...

Clinic worksite
The guys worked late into the day as it is always best to pour a floor at one time. What you see above is the floor of the first wing of the clinic now done and curing. This means that we can start putting up blocks for the walls-- my favorite part!

Clinic worksite
As our crew lost some time this week due to the wet weather, they worked today. Things are moving along.

Clinic worksite
Our guys are putting in a great effort to get the foundation done while the weather is good. Notice the sky in the top photo? Maybe those dark clouds will pass us by-- that's our hope!

Muddy path leads to clinic worksite in foreground
Foundation walls for the clinic are filled with water
I took these photos yesterday morning as the skies were clearing. Unfortunately that did not last long and we had torrential rains this afternoon. Everywhere one looks, there's mud and water.

Clinic update
The digging for the external walls for the new clinic is done (all by hand, of course). They are ready for rocks, rebar and cement.
The crew above is working on the weight bearing inside walls.

Siting the new clinic
With the walled children's village in the background, our construction team decides where the new clinic will be sited. Looks like a lot of open space, eh? In reality there's the vocational classroom for tailors/seamstresses to the immediate left of this photo and six containers to the right. We had to allow for future professional school classrooms and consider access issues.

Warning: if you're squeamish, skip this post
Jerry was playing soccer (what else?) and bit through his tongue. He was rushed to the clinic and we are grateful that Doc Jacob was there. After a couple shots of lidocaine, Doc Jacob sewed him up. Jerry spent the night in our Guest House just so we could observe him. This was last Friday and it is still hard for him to consume anything solid.
