Sam
Saw Sam sitting by himself this afternoon. Will keep an eye on him as this isn't typical.
Hello to Sam! Sometimes the world just becomes too hectic, or too frustrating, or too confusing. I don't know what he is feeling, but I sure wish I could offer him an ear. (or perhaps write to him? How could that be arranged? Are the logistics horrible?)
When I read you comment about Sam my heart sank and I thought to myself . . . I hope he hasn't been sexually abused. Of course his saddens could be due to many things.
As an adoptive mother of a Haitian daughter who was adopted at an older age, I knew my daughter was at high risk for sexual abuse. Luckily she was never abused, but I've heard heart breaking stories from other adoptive parents. Sometime the abuse came from powerful people inside the orphanage, sometimes from outsiders, and sometime from the older children (who, mostly likely abused themselves)
Do the children at Espwa get sexually abuse education? The message can be different depending on the age. Knowing that certain things are wrong and you can say no, and you will be believed is a powerful. Maybe it can be a Scout project?
